These early portraits preserve the tiny details that change so quickly in the first days of life — delicate eyelashes, curled fingers, soft expressions, and the quiet connection between you and your baby. My goal is to create timeless images that allow you to remember exactly how these first moments felt.
Every newborn session is calm, unhurried, and designed around your baby’s comfort. With gentle guidance and a relaxed pace, we create a collection of portraits that celebrate the beginning of your family’s newest chapter.

How it works
A Newborn Photography Experience
what to expect for your newborn session

Step One:
Reserving Your Session
Newborn Posed sessions are best photographed within the first 2–14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and comfortable for gentle posing. Because sessions are scheduled around due dates and availability is intentionally limited each month, booking during pregnancy is highly recommended.
When booking online, you’ll select your preferred newborn session type and reserve a date close to your due date. Flexibility is built in to adjust your session once your baby arrives.
Step Two:
Planning Your Session
Once your session is reserved, we’ll begin planning your newborn experience.
You’ll receive a brief questionnaire covering your due date, family details, color preferences, styling preferences, and how you envision displaying your newborn portraits. This allows me to thoughtfully plan your session and create imagery that feels timeless, cohesive, and personal.
Visits to my Bonsall Studio are available by appointment for those who would like to see artwork samples and products in person.
Step Three:
Your Newborn Session
Newborn sessions last approximately 2–4 hours and are completely baby-led, allowing time for feeding, soothing, and settling as needed.
All props, wraps, clothing, and accessories are provided, so you don’t need to bring a thing—though sentimental items are always welcome. Family and sibling portraits are included, creating a complete and meaningful gallery.
Your only job is to relax and trust that your baby is in experienced, gentle hands.
Step Four:
The Viewing & Ordering
After your session, images are carefully reviewed and lightly edited in preparation for your Viewing & Ordering Appointment, scheduled 1–2 weeks after your session.
This is when you’ll come back to the Studio in Bonsall to see your newborn portraits for the first time and select the images to be fully retouched. You’ll also choose from custom albums, fine-art prints, wall art, and heirloom products designed to be enjoyed for generations.
Step Five:
Confirming Edits & Product Proofs
Once your selections are made, final retouching begins. You’ll receive digital proofs to review and approve, ensuring every image and product detail meets your expectations before going to print.
This step provides peace of mind and ensures your artwork is finished to the highest standard.
Step Six:
Delivery of Products & Art
Your finished newborn artwork is professionally produced and delivered with care—either to my studio for pickup or directly to your home.
Installation guidance and care instructions are provided so your artwork can be enjoyed beautifully from day one.
FAQ
When should I book my newborn session?

Newborn photography sessions are best booked during pregnancy. Sessions are photographed within the first 2–14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and comfortable for gentle posing.
When booking, you’ll reserve a date close to your due date. Your session will be finalized once your baby arrives, with flexibility built in for early or late deliveries.
What is included with my session fee?

Your session fee reserves your time and experience and includes the professional planning, studio time, and expertise required to create your newborn portraits.
This includes set design, gentle newborn handling and posing, baby and family posing, studio lighting, and access to a curated collection of wraps, clothing, bonnets, headbands, and backdrops. Time is also included for careful image review and preparation prior to your viewing appointment.
Your session fee also includes a one-hour Viewing & Ordering Appointment, where you’ll select the images to be fully retouched and choose from custom albums, wall art, fine-art prints, and digital collections.
How much should I expect to invest in professional newborn portraits?
Portrait collections vary based on your selections and artwork preferences.
Most families invest between $600 and $2,400 in their newborn portrait collection. Options include professionally retouched digital images, fine-art prints, wall art, and custom heirloom albums.
As a full-service newborn photography studio, I guide you through each option so you can choose artwork that fits your home, style, and long-term vision.
What do I need to bring to my newborn session?
Very little—everything needed for your session is provided in my studio located in Bonsall, North County San Diego.
I supply all wraps, clothing, headbands, bonnets, props, and accessories. You’re welcome to bring sentimental items, family heirlooms, or meaningful pieces you’d like incorporated, but nothing is required.
Parents and siblings are encouraged to participate, and guidance is provided for coordinated, timeless looks.
What if my baby needs breaks during the session?
Newborn sessions are completely baby-led. Time is built in for feeding, soothing, and comforting as needed, allowing the session to move at your baby’s pace in a calm, relaxed environment.
How many images will I get to choose from?
A typical newborn session yields 60–100 images to choose from, depending on your baby’s comfort and flow of the session.
This variety allows you to select the images that best reflect your baby’s personality, tiny details, and your family’s connection.
Do you offer prints and albums?

Yes. I am a full-service photography studio offering professionally printed, handcrafted artwork.
Your newborn portraits may be printed and framed, displayed as statement wall art, or thoughtfully designed into a custom heirloom album—each created using museum-grade materials and crafted to be enjoyed for generations.
Why Newborn Photos Are Taken Early
Why Are Newborn Photos Taken Within the First Two Weeks?
Newborn sessions are typically photographed within the first 3–14 days after birth. During this time babies are still very sleepy and naturally curl into the soft, womb-like positions that create those timeless newborn portraits.
At this stage, babies are usually more comfortable being gently posed while sleeping, which allows for the peaceful images many parents love. As babies grow, they begin stretching out more and becoming more alert, which naturally changes the style of photographs we can create.
That said, every baby is different, and sessions always move at your baby’s pace. My priority is always creating a calm environment where your baby feels comfortable and safe.
Preparing for Your Newborn Session
One of the most common questions parents ask is how to prepare for their newborn photography session. The good news is that newborn sessions are designed to be relaxed and simple for families.
Most parents don’t need to bring much at all. The studio is fully stocked with wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and simple accessories chosen specifically for newborn photography.
Before your session, I’ll send guidance to help you prepare. A few simple things can make the experience even smoother:
• feeding your baby just before the session begins
• dressing baby in loose clothing for easy changes
• bringing extra diapers and a pacifier if your baby uses one
Parents and siblings are always welcome to be part of the session as well. Soft neutral clothing photographs beautifully and helps keep the focus on the connection between your family and your baby.

Your Baby’s Safety Always Comes First
Newborn photography requires patience, experience, and a gentle approach. Every pose is done slowly and safely, always following your baby’s comfort and natural movement.
Sessions are intentionally unhurried so we have time for feeding, soothing, and settling your baby whenever needed. The studio is kept warm and calm to help babies sleep comfortably throughout the session.
Above all, the experience is designed to feel relaxed for both parents and baby, allowing you to simply enjoy these first moments while I capture them for you.
